Dr. Richardson was one of only two Certified Irlen Diagnosticians in the State of Oregon. Individuals with Irlen Syndrome or Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome have slight to major distortions in their visual processing which they may not be aware of that impact depth perception, reading, energy level, light sensitivity and other functions. This condition is not related to impairment of the eye but rather relates to the quality and processing of the bioelectrical signal which the brain attempts to process. With this distortion, white spaces may glow or letters may feel like they move or print becomes washed out. By use of the right Irlen Filters, this distortion is corrected. Many individuals who have sustained head traumas have experienced this condition which is has also been called Post Trauma Vision Syndrome.
